“Elegance through intelligence” is quite a fitting motto for up and coming Australian label LP33.3 who are set to debut with an Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. The name LP33.3 is an acronym for the designers’ initials (Luke Hosking and Paul Del Giglio) with 33.3 being symbolic of the brand philosophy. This philosophy is a life cycle of creation, destruction and renewal – 33.3 being this “infinite loop”. Luke and Paul possess a load of local and European industry experience having worked for the likes of Alice McCall, David Lawrence, Zimmermann locally, and Blumarine, MaxMara in Italy. Their relevance is in their practice, aesthetic and in their way of thinking. We get a sense of the labels’ strong direction from their innovative and environmentally sound fabric treatment to the sophisticated craftsmanship and design… The label strongly supports the local industry sourcing only from Australian fibre and manufacturing industries with garments being completely Australian made. From pre-washing and wearing precious fabrics such as silk, double georgette and organza the fabrics become more wearable, washable and versatile for day wear as well as evening wear.
For their debut collection entitled “The Visitor”, LP33.3 turned to 1968 Italian film Teorema by Pier Paolo Pasolini for inspiration. There is a real sense of mystery and seduction; it is a culmination of sensorial clashes. It is sexy whilst prim, sensual whilst sombre… we see Chantilly lace, wild silk, masculinity complimenting femininity, relaxed tailoring and bursts of colour in shades of deep sea blue, paprika and volcanic red. Check out the look book and be sure to remember the name.
