My apologies go to anybody who tried to contact me through email between December – today. My inbox was at capacity and didn’t take anymore messages. I thought it was incredibly strange that my inbox became a ghost town instantly… like shit, no one wants to mail me anymore? Well it took me long enough to realise what was going on. Anyway, I’ve sort that problem out so feel free to resent me a message if you feel necessary… or send me a message anyway.
While girls everywhere are stealing from their boyfriends’ clothing to get that effortless oversized look, Kris Van Assche’s latest amps up the clothing scale. Giant pullovers were showcased alongside a collection of tailored suits, a variety of coats and not so basic basics. The colour palette remained simple; black & white progressing to grey, taupe and a splash of raw sienna brown. Standing collar shirts and blazers recurred throughout the collection, adding an interesting spin on menswear essentials.
The latest from Dries Van Noten makes me wish I was a boy. One thing I find hard to resist is a play on opposites – the collection is formal yet casual, muted yet bold. It showcases broad shoulders with slim pants, blazers with fur collars and lapels… Each looks is simple and effortless but nevertheless so beautiful. It’s an undone glamour; elegance that does not sacrifice masculinity that makes this collection so aesthetically seductive.
… what a show. Jean Paul Gaultier showcased a dramatic Bond themed collection featuring a myriad of tuxedo variations. Much of the buzz about this show was based on androgynous Melbourne sensation Andrej Pejic as a blond Bond. The collection itself featured slick black tuxedos cleverly adapted to various facets of the Bond theme. Floor and knee length skirts along with hot pants and fishnets toyed with the masculinity associated with the James Bond persona. The mix of textures and applications formed together deliciously, creating one hell of a fashion trip.
