The spring/summer Aje collection was presented at the Paspaley boutique. The show featured chic mini skirts and dresses intricately embellished with innumerable sequins. The collection came together as what I would image the rebel mermaids of Atlantis would wear if they were to wear anything. The mix of sheers and heavy embellishments creates a nice contrast between soft and tough. I especially like the application of matte black sequins as it doesn’t necessarily make the outfits look too glamourous or disco queen. I’m not so much a fan of the boots though…

So what’s fashion week without the label that every second Australian girl is wearing? … still fashion week. Ellery’s latest is a mash of her standard aesthetics this time with round shoulders and some drapes thrown in the mix. There are quite a few references to international designer collections which is interesting. Anyway, nice to see something new.

Fashion week is getting a little repetitive, I’ve seen one too many peplums, too many mirrored floral prints and too much Lana Del Rey. I guess this collection sort of fits into the category (not sure about the Lana Del Rey part). I like the sexiness of the some of the collection especially the slinky sheers, whites and slick wet hair. Also pretty lush backdrop by Grandiflora. Good to find something I like.

If I were to describe this collection in one word, I would say cool. It’s a mash up of quadruple denim, hibiscus holiday spray paint prints all in a sporty tone. If you gathered the latest hip trends and made a collection out of it, this is what it would look like.* I really like that the garments have loosened up and baggy clothing looks cool again. What sucks is the spray painted pieces (which I probably didn’t include in the gallery) that I guess are part ksubi’s aesthetic with their ‘kustom’ stuff and all but it’s just too D.I.Y. for my liking. Too cool.

*Coordinating tropical prints, athletic looking leather and shirts tied around the waist 90′s grunge style.

Zimmermann’s latest resort collection had me looking forward to next summer (despite my preference for cooler climates). The clothing was a collection of super sweet, romantic and feminine featuring pastel shades and soft floral prints. Laser cut perforations and sheers gave the collection a cool edge.

Something that gets me really excited about fashion is seeing a show with pieces of clothing I know I will HAVE to buy. Gary Bigeni’s latest was a whole lot of that. The collection as a whole is very wearable and I think that is a very important. There’s a perfect mix of colours, fabrics and textures that runs right up my alley. I can really see this as my wardrobe staple when the weather warms up.

To kick off fashion week, the ever theatrical Romance was Born presented a collection based on Marvel comics and their associated superheroes/villains. The looks were mildly comical but nevertheless marvelous. The runway exploded with bold graphics, bright colours, sparkle and shine on red headed sirens.
